Winter Awakenings is a beautifully thought out and realized work, sung exquisitely and sensitively by Katz. Marilyn Lester, Theater Pizzazz Singer Renee Katz took to her work as a storyteller and emerged from the shutdown with a new piece of art. -Stephen Mosher, BroadwayWorld Renee Katz is a singer on the rise and this album shows her to be an exceptional vocalist who delivers her songs with a genuine softness that is at times as powerful as it is driving. -John Hoglund, Cabaret Scenes Katz is most effective on such longing images recalling the late Barbara Cook who adjusted her classical training to suit contemporary, pop, and theater singing and told a story with veracity and heart. Renee Katz has the same qualities; that is her strength. -John Hoglund, Cabaret Scenes With a reedy voice that floats gently through the air Renee Katz does a deep dive of emotions into the lyrics accompanying each melody -Stephen Mosher, BroadwayWorld Renee’s vocal chords have been touched by angels… and they are wrapped around an artist of huge heart, passion and wisdom. Those gifts in service of these songs are exquisitely accompanied by John M. Cook is what music is all about: the real stuff of life elevated into song. -Jeff Harnar Renee Katz is a buoyant, optimistic Cabaret star whose powerful, rapturous, playful soprano reminds many of her fans of Barbara Cook because, like Cook, Renee Katz sings with her whole heart in the same exquisitely intimate way Cook did...Renee gives Jule her all.
~Myra Chanin, Theater Pizzazz She can deliver a ballad as sweetly as a breeze caressing the leaves. Renee has also written poetry reflecting a spectrum of her emotions across the years: anger, grief, regret, vulnerability, hope and, for sure, love. ~Clyde Haberman, The New York Times Renee Katz, in her illustrious soprano, amplified the hope and longing as the song progressed. She brought Herman’s message to vivid life. ~Todd Sussman, Cabaret Scenes The audience is hers from the moment she utters her first sound...An extremely focused rendition of Skylark (music Hoagy Carmichael/lyrics Johnny Mercer) took on new meaning bringing a warmth and tenderness, only to be equaled by the sad, yet stunning reality of “Meadowlark” (music/lyrics Stephen Schwartz from The Baker’s Wife). ~Sandi Durrell, Theater Pizzazz And while it’s a treat regardless to hear Yeston’s luscious melodies from a pitch-perfect soprano like Katz’s, her voice warm and soothing, like cocoa upon coming in from the cold, it’s that parallel that really resonates, and makes the words she sings so gosh-darn powerful. ~Matt Smith, Theater Pizzazz Renee's terrific show captivated, from her soaring range and beauty of voice, to her choice of probing songs, not just unusual, but pointed straight to those private most recesses of the human heart, to lodge there and stay, parts of us for good and ill. ~Stephen Downey, Patron of Cabaret Arts |
